Keeping Your Skin Healthy In the Heat

November 23, 2018

Miami means glowing, gorgeous, and healthy skin. But all that time spent in the hot sun can make keeping your skin healthy in the heat challenging and your skin can be severely and irreversibly damaging if you’re not careful.

You can help avoid the damaging effects of the sun with these healthy skin tips to keep your skin fresh, clean, and as healthy as possible.

Use at Least SPF 30 Sun Protection

One of the biggest dangers to your skin is overexposure to UV (ultraviolet) rays. Whether you’re at the pool, or on the beach, always be sure to use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher to protect your face and body.

Broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against damaging UVA and UVB rays which can lead to sunburns, early aging, and potentially skin cancer.

Exfoliate Gently

Your skin will be working overtime as it tries to heal any burns or irritation in the sun. In addition to cleansing your face, add exfoliating to your skin-care routine to help rid your skin of dead surface cells.

To do this, you can use a loofah, scrub brush, or washcloth, and gently scrub your skin. Remember not to over-exfoliate, as this can actually reverse the effects.

Moisturize

Intense heat, sun exposure, and exfoliation can all leave your skin dry and flakey if you don’t moisturize. For glowing skin, use lotions that contain aloe vera and vitamin E for supplementary nourishment.

Using a moisturizer also helps to prevent wrinkles. Be careful of moisturizer or cream that “tightens” or “firms,” because these may cause your skin to feel drier, not moist – so if you’d like to try them, test a sample first to see how your skin reacts to them.

Stay Hydrated Inside

Your skin also relies on your consumption of plenty of water, as does the rest of your body. Even if you don’t sweat very much, the heat can make your body work hard to stay at its proper temperature.

Keeping your skin healthy in the heat requires drinking lots of water, which makes it easier for your body to stay cool, while hydrating your skin from the inside out.

Diet and Exercise

Getting enough exercise is great for Keeping your skin healthy in the heat because exercise increases your body’s blood flow and oxygen circulation. Good circulation makes it easier for your body to repair acne or sunburns.

Eating a balanced diet and avoiding foods saturated in fatty oils will help nourish your skin and help avoid clogged pores.

Skip Stress

Weekends are the perfect time to relax and have fun. Stress is bad for your body overall, but it can truly show its effects on your skin.

Practice decreasing your stress to help manage your complexion and boost your overall wellness.
